Cordon Bleugh

Emily looks down at the grilled breast of chicken stuffed with spinach and fromage frais which I have made her for lunch, and then across at the two slices of stale bread filled with a couple of lumps of old cheese on my plate.

"I wish I was having what you're having," she sighs...

Number 6

What Phoebe said: "Daddy, I like your T-shirt. Are you Number 6?"

What I should have said: "Darling, how clever you are! Yes, I am number 6!"

What I actually said: "I am not a number, I am a free man!"

(I think it's safe to say that when your four-year-old daughter reacts to your comments by slowly backing out of the room with a worried expression on her face, you have comletely and utterly Lost The Plot...)

Happy Easter

In Greece, the arrival of Holy Week means it's time for the TV stations to get the Faithful into the appropriate Easter mood by dusting off all the old Biblical epics they can lay their hands on. So far this week we have been treated to films, TV movies and mini series such as Slaves of Babylon, the Passion of Christ, Jesus of Nazareth, The Bible, Quo Vadis, Ben Hur, Cleopatra, Empire, David and Bathsheba, Barrabas, King David, Demetrius and the Gladiators, Mary Mother of God, King of Kings, Spartacus, and The Beginning of Time.

Emily is of course hugely excited by the prospect of wall-to-wall togas, crucifixions, and Christians being fed to lions.

I'm wondering, though, what mad genius of TV scheduling decided that Weekend at Bernie's (Easter Sunday in the primetime slot of 9pm) was the ideal film to mark the Resurrection, and how I'm going to explain its religious significance to Emily...

The Lion and the Crow

Not one of Aesop's Fables, but a couple of pictures by Emily (roar!)...
