Happy Birthday Emily!

Me: "Emily, this is so great! You have the same birthday as Bob Dylan!"

Emily: "Who?"

Me: "Bob Dylan! He's like the greatest singer-songwriter of all time. There is no one cooler or more famous."

Emily: [Not noticeably impressed] "I wish I shared my birthday with Rihanna."

Me: "Who?"

Emily: "Rihanna, Dad, she's... oh, never mind."

If I have never heard of Rihanna there is apparently no hope for me and I am certainly disqualified from making uneducated pronouncements about who is or isn't cool or famous. Oh well...

Geography

While revising with Emily I discover that the sixth-grade Geography book describes the Japanese as the hardest-working of the yellow race. Glad to see the school syllabus reflecting the latest scientific findings. Next week in physics we will probably be learning all about phrenology...
